Ever think you’d cook food with your favourite beverage?! Well not here. Some of us are loving this idea and some of us are hating it. Coke has been in trend since the 1800’s and now we use it for various reasons. Some being to help remove stains from clothes, loosen rusted bolts, defrost your iced windshield, clean burnt pans and to cure nausea.

But have you ever heard about cooking with coke?! This is just awkward, most people shop for coke, they don’t go shopping for coke as an ingredient for their Sunday lunch. We’ll have to work through that. Here are some things you can cook with coke.

Ham

  • Ham ½
  • 1 Cup brown sugar
  • Coke

Wash your ham thoroughly.

Then rub the fat edges with brown sugar. (You know you want that crisp goodness!)

Pour your cola over the ham and bake at 230 degrees Celsius for three hours.

Ribs

  • Rack of Ribs
  • 1 tsp Garlic
  • ½ tsp ginger
  • 1 Cup BBQ sauce
  • ½ tsp mustard
  • 1 tsp hot sauce
  • Coke

Cut the ribs into sections or leave whole and rub on salt, pepper, garlic and ginger.

Lay on your pan and bake for 1hr30mins uncovered.

In a saucepan, mix your BBQ sauce, coke, mustard, and hot sauce. Heat it till it boils, then simmer for 30 minutes until thick. (No can do without some thick sauce!)

Heat your grill, lay your rack of ribs on the grill and cover. Brush your sauce on the ribs occasionally. 

Cola Cake

  • 2 Cups Sugar
  • 2 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 Cup Cola
  • 1 Cup, Mini Marshmallows
  • ½ margarine/butter (two parts)
  • 3 tbsp. Cocoa
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 6 tbsp. Cola
  • 2 Cups Confectioners’ Sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • Chopped Nuts (Your choice, wink!)

Preheat your oven 350 degrees.

Sift the dry ingredients together and add the marshmallows.

In a saucepan, mix the butter, oil, cocoa and cola and bring to boil, pour over dry ingredients then mix well.

Dissolve the baking soda in buttermilk, then add your batter with your eggs and vanilla extract and mix well. Bake for 30-40 minutes.

The Frosting  

Mix ½ cup butter, 3tbs of cocoa and 6 tbsp. of cola in a saucepan, bring to boil and pour the confectioners’ sugar. Blend well and add vanilla extract and the nuts you’ve selected. Frost the cake while it’s still hot.
