Secrets of Christmas revealed

Chubby guy coming off your chimney with gifts, and eating cookies… sounds like Santa! These are the stories we have all heard about Christmas and Santa Claus. However, did you know that there are many Christmas facts that the world is unaware of?

When it comes to the Christmas tree, this tradition started in 1830. It became popular only as from 1846, when the Prince of Germany, Albert brought it to England after his wedding to Queen Victoria. The popularity came through after a portrait of the King and Queen in front of a Christmas tree was made.

As for Stocking, there is a special story behind this… Once upon a time, there was a poor man and his three daughters. The father could not marry off his daughters as he did not have money. On a Christmas night, Santa Claus dropped a bag of gold down the man’s chimney, and it fell into a sock which was drying by the fire. And this is why stocking is a Christmas tradition, as it might bring some luck, and Santa might grant your wishes.

Red and White are the traditional colours of Christmas. But did you know that it is said that in the past, Santa Claus used to wear Blue, white and green. It is only after a Coca Cola advertisement that the Red and White combination became the tradition.

Another thing you might not know is that the first artificial tree was made out of dyed goose feathers by the Germans. Thankfully, they are made of plastic now. Wouldn’t that be weird to see a goose-dyed Christmas tree?
