Tribute to Elvis Presley
Thunder roared, lightning struck and the heavy rainfall hammered on the roofs… On the 16th of August 1977, one of the worst storms hit London; the world lost one of the greatest legends, the King of Pop! It is true that storms bring a sense of doom, and this one brought the news of the death of Elvis Presley. It was flashed all over the news that the King of Pop died in his home at the age of 42.
If it was anybody else, he or she could have just been forgotten, but Elvis Presley was clearly too loved for that. Presley was not just a singer or an entertainer, he was a legend. He was somehow different from all the artists the world knew. From his snapping knee to the way he combed his hair, he was the start of a rebellion. The 50’s were the dynamic days and everyone wanted to be him!
The singer starred in 33 amazing films, made hearts beat faster with his television appearances and broke records worldwide. Having sold over one billion albums all over the world, he deservingly earned gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards. Amongst his many achievements were the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (aged 36), 14 Grammy Nominations (3 Won) and Young Men of the Nation 1970.
Alongside his talent, sensuality, charisma, good humour and looks, his humility and kindness earned him millions of fans. Until today he is still remembered as one of the most important figures of the 20th century and of popular culture.
Even today, if his records are listened to in the middle of the night, the charm still lives through his voice and wisely chosen words. His music was and still is a haven of candour through some of this most famous tunes like ‘Love Me Tender’, ‘Jailhouse Rock’ and ‘Are You Lonesome Tonight’.
In the memories of some and in the hearts of many, the King of Pop still lives…
